Beauty and environmental responsibility come together in an innovative initiative: recycling cut hair from hair salons to contribute to ocean pollution control. Among the well-being and health initiatives of Thermes Marins de Monte-Carlo, this action was launched in its hair salon Rossano Ferretti.

Coiffeurs Justes, a Green Association
This recently launched action is one of the initiatives spearheaded by the well-being and preventive health centre, which has held Green Globe certification since 2016, with Coiffeurs Justes. “It all started when one of our trainees arrived one morning having cut off his long hair. He told me he had donated it to an organisation. I thought it was an excellent idea so I started looking for one that could recycle waste hair. This allowed us to join the organisation and buy the bags required to collect the waste hair from the Rossano Ferretti hair salon here in the building”, explains Jézabel Richard, executive assistant and environmental representative at the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo.
Environmental and anti-pollution action
Coiffeurs Justes was founded by Thierry Gras, an artisan hairdresser who works to raise awareness about hair recycling throughout his profession. The initiative generates an entire bag of cut hair per month, which is sent to the organisation by post.
Later, Coiffeurs Justes and Ecofhair then recycle the natural raw material and make it into a fabric sausage called Capisorb®. Drawing on hair’s absorbent properties, these sausages are used to surround and capture crude oil spills at sea, or to soak up oil residue found in boat holds when they are refuelling. Based in Toulon and Lyon, Ecofhair also contributes to professional integration programmes. This exemplary CSR initiative is part of a virtuous environmental and anti-pollution circle.
