Our commitments to Sustainable Development

“ACT GREEN” with Monte-Carlo Beach

The Monte-Carlo Beach CSR programme (Corporate Social Responsibility) forms part of a wider, comprehensive policy implemented by the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer group since 2007. In 2023, the group launched its fourth Sustainable Development Charter covering the period from 2022 to 2026 and adopted a complete CSR policy comprised of three aspects: Environmental, Social and Societal.

The Monte-Carlo Beach pursued its commitment to sustainable development through its own sustainable development charter for 2023-2026, showcasing its own flagship activities.

Green Globe

The Monte-Carlo Beach is Green Globe certified since 2014. By winning this prestigious and rigorous international label — along with its Platinium Standard certification in 2023 — the hotel has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to sustainable development.

Actions implemented at the Monte-Carlo Beach:

With a focus on continuous improvement, the Monte-Carlo Beach has introduced numerous actions to give meaning to its commitments.

Guest-related:

- A menu with local, seasonal and organic products at the gastronomic restaurant Elsa.

- The availability of “green” vehicles, such as a hybrid courtesy car, an electrically assisted bicycle station, a 100% electric inter-hotels shuttle as well as charging stations available to help promote more environmentally friendly transportation with reduced reliance on fossil fuel.

- Raising customer awareness through various communication aids (the press, posters, digital communication in the bedrooms, the social networks, etc.).

- An eco-ethical, organic and made in France cosmetic line: PAOMA, used at the Monte-Carlo Beach spa.

Staff-related:

- The separation and sorting of 22 categories of waste (glass, paper, cardboard, recyclable household packaging, lightbulbs, waste electrical and electronic equipment, food-based oils, category SPA3 organic waste, batteries and coat-hangers).

- Training and raising awareness among staff with the launch of a Green Team, different communication aids (newsletter, e-news, in-company blog, etc.) and thematic training.

Societal:

- The collection of toys with the SIVOM (Syndicat Intercommunal à Vocation Multiple) to raise money for the children of the Restos du Cœur charity, with the in-house “Christmas in September” campaign.

- The collection of plastic caps, which are sent to the association “Les Bouchons d’amour” to help finance medical equipment for people with disabilities.

- The collection of cork bottle stoppers, which are then handed into the “France Cancer” association to help finance cancer research.

- The collecting soaps, recovered by Sapocycle to make soaps for the most deprived.

Environmental:

- The rehabilitation of the beach to its original state in 1929, to protect local heritage and to restore the coastline while also encouraging biodiversity.

- The extension of the Bird Protection League (LPO) Refuge at Pointe Vigie with the gardens of Villa La Vigie as well as the nurseries.

- The construction of a biodiversity-positive reef dike to protect the beach and to allow for the development of marine wildlife.

- The signature of Monaco’s National Ecological Transition Pact, membership of the Provence-Alps-Riviera region of the League for the Protection of Birds and a stakeholder in Monaco’s Marine Protected Areas.

- The punctual clean-up of the nearby public beach, to raise awareness among users and to protect the environment.

Energy transition:

- The signature in 2019 of the Monaco National Energy Transition Pact, which seeks to achieve a neutral carbon footprint by 2050.

- The purchasing from the electricity company EDF of the equivalent of our electricity consumption in renewable energy and gas contracts with carbon offsets.

- The ongoing reduction of water consumption through the use of technical resources and best practices (water-efficient machines, the use of aerators on taps, changes in operating practices with alternative cleaning solutions, etc.).

Accommodation:

The Monte-Carlo Beach is committed to providing you with an environmentally-friendly stay without compromising on comfort. Its architecture, materials and resource management are designed to limit the impact on nature, while ensuring you enjoy a high-quality experience.

  • Casanera amenity products

The skincare products provided in the rooms are by Casanera, an organic, local and traditional Corsican brand. Formulated with natural ingredients from the maquis, they combine effectiveness and respect for the skin, packaged in recyclable or refillable containers.

  • Simple gestures, sustainable effects

Discreet messages in your room invite you to adopt a few eco-responsible actions, such as limiting the frequency of laundering towels and sheets or receiving your dry cleaning without a plastic cover to limit plastic waste.

  • Donate, recycle, support

The hotel supports associations such as Sapocycle, which recovers used soap for reconditioning and redistribution to the needy, and the Monegasque Red Cross, through equipment donations. These actions give your stay an element of solidarity.

  • Soft mobility at your disposal

To make it easier for you to get around while limiting emissions, we provide electric bicycles with our Monegasque partner brand Stajevelo, as well as a low-emissions hybrid courtesy car, offering simple and pleasant alternatives for your local journeys.

  • The Monte-Carlo Beach spa

At the Monte-Carlo Beach Spa, treatments use Paoma organic products. Made in France from natural ingredients, they combine effectiveness, sensoriality and respect for the environment.

Dining:

  • Cuisine that respects the oceans

Working in partnership with the Mister Goodfish programme since March 2024 (for the Elsa, Le Deck and Maona Monte-Carlo restaurants), our chef favours recommended marine species, depending on the season and available stocks. An approach that reconciles gastronomic pleasure with preserving marine resources.

  • Restaurants with the “Engagés” [”Committed”] label

The Elsa and Le Deck restaurants are renowned for their environmental actions in reducing and recycling waste and sourcing ingredients locally. This label reflects a tangible commitment that is monitored on a daily basis.

  • Local products, local distribution networks

We work with local producers such as Domaine Agerbol in Roquebrune. Seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs are delivered via local distribution networks, for authentic, environmentally-friendly cuisine. https://www.domainedagerbol.bio/a-propos

  • Filtered water, zero plastic

We offer filtered still and sparkling water in our restaurants to limit plastic waste. It is served in a jug to avoid single-use bottles, while guaranteeing optimum quality.

  • Local know-how at the table

Handcrafted knives, handmade centrepieces... We showcase the work of local designers, chosen for their high-quality know-how. A discreet way of showcasing craftsmanship in every detail.

Seaside:

  • Children’s workshops to raise awareness

The Kids Club offers a range of environmental activities for young guests. From observing wildlife to educational games and making objects from recycled materials, they provide fun learning experiences in the heart of nature.

  • Respectful watersports

The activities on offer on our beach – paddle-boarding, kayaks, pedalos – are non-motorised. They allow you to enjoy the sea in complete peace, without noise pollution.

  • Cleaner transport options

A solar-powered Monabike station and bioethanol-powered shuttles are provided for easy access to SBM establishments in the heart of the Principality. These practical solutions promote cleaner mobility without sacrificing comfort.

  • Water fountains

Filtered water fountains are freely accessible in the gym and around the padel courts for refilling your reusable bottle at any time, plastic-free.

Biodiversity and heritage:

  • A refuge for biodiversity

The Monte-Carlo Beach site has held the Refuge LPO label since 2019, a status that requires concrete measures to protect birds and biodiversity, such as no mowing, no use of pesticides, installation of nesting boxes, etc.

  • An artificial reef to protect the coastline

The reef seawall alongside the beach protects the shoreline while encouraging marine life. This discreet and innovative solution contributes to the regeneration of the seabed and coastal resilience.

  • Villa La Vigie: between nature and heritage

Overlooking the sea, La Vigie is a historic villa surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. Carefully preserved, it illustrates the balance between built heritage and the natural environment.

  • Understanding and respecting local customs

Simple gestures can help you take account of local customs, respecting the area and its inhabitants. We invite you to discover them to better understand the spirit of the Principality.

  • Assessing the impact of your stay

On the Visit Monaco website, you can use a carbon calculator to measure the impact of your trip. A useful initiative to help you travel better and, if you wish, offset your carbon footprint.

  • Customs and traditions

Monaco combines cosmopolitanism and tradition: respect for the Princely Family, elegance, savoir-vivre, and major events such as the National Day, the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and the Rose Ball. The Principality also values discretion, security, and multiculturalism, with French remaining the official language alongside Monégasque. In terms of gastronomy, typical dishes such as barbagiuans, pissaladière, fougasse, and stocafi offer sunny Mediterranean flavors, complemented by a world-renowned Michelin-starred culinary scene.
