The origin of the Monegasque Red Cross Gala
Founded on 3 March 1948 by Prince Louis II, the Monegasque Red Cross was recognised in the same year by the International Committee of the Red Cross and admitted to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Every year, this gala attracts committed celebrities and philanthropists from around the world, with the aim of raising funds for the Red Cross's many humanitarian initiatives. This responsible evening is also an opportunity to highlight the association's dedication during humanitarian emergencies and crises, providing relief and assistance to affected populations around the world.
The Monaco Red Cross plays an important role among the 192 national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. Locally, the Social Service helps people living in Monaco and neighbouring municipalities who are experiencing financial difficulties or facing emergency situations. The numerous volunteers in the first aid section are present at all first aid stations during events organised in the Principality and also abroad. The section trains all members of the public in life-saving techniques, and the Health and Prevention Section enables health professionals, doctors and nurses to carry out training and awareness-raising activities among the population of Monaco.
The Gala is the Red Cross' flagship event. Since 1948, charity shows have been organised to raise funds for the humanitarian activities of the Monegasque Red Cross. In 1974, the Gala took shape at the Salle des Étoiles, welcoming renowned artists for unique shows every summer, with equally famous presenters. The raffle, a popular part of the evening, always features prestigious prizes to delight guests.
In 2021, the Monaco Red Cross reinvented itself with a brand new format. H.S.H. Prince Albert II wanted to hold this major social event celebrating generosity on the Place du Casino.
On 18 July 2022, the Monaco Red Cross once again held its annual gala at the Place du Casino. Guests were first invited to dinner on the terraces of the Casino before attending a concert by Alicia Keys.
Le 29 juillet 2023, la Croix-Rouge monégasque a renoué avec la tradition en retournant à Salle des Étoiles du Sporting de Monte-Carlo pour célébrer son 74ème Gala avec en vedette Robbie Williams.
For more than 30 years, the Monaco Red Cross has assembled an exceptional collection of artworks, comprising, in particular, unique pieces created by world-renowned artists, specially donated for the annual gala and illustrating the values of the Monaco Red Cross. While some of the works are on display at the CRM headquarters, a number of them have been transferred for a temporary exhibition at the headquarters of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as part of an agreement co-signed by the CRM and the IFRC.
Every year, spectators and guests of the Monegasque Red Cross continue to show their solidarity in large numbers under the presidency of Prince Rainier III (from 1949 to 1958), Princess Grace (1958 to 1982) and Prince Albert II since December 1982.
